2005 Grammy Award Winner (Coulter) and “one of the classical guitar world's most foremost personalities” (Verdery) invite you to listen to Spring's sweet cantata, to the grass pushing through the snow. to happy here.

Here, a rare and original conversation unfolds, between acoustic and steel strings, as if between two old friends re-uniting, one helping to define the other. Collaborators since 1984, Ben Verdery and Bill Coulter have found a unique and energizing partnership. Their new album, happy here, debuts this broad new repertoire, drawing inspiration from Celtic, World, and Pop music traditions. Whether a Galician jig, Eddy Vedder's Rise, Bach's Sheep May Safely Graze, an old Irish air, or the modern sounds of the Penguin Café Orchestra, expect the unexpected in this lovely, timely and unique collection of arrangements and original compositions.

Past recordings together include the popular 2001 release, Songs For Our Ancestors. In 2005, Coulter won a Grammy for his contribution to the album The Pink Guitar. His most recent album is his critically acclaimed, 2004 solo project The Road Home. Coulter teaches at UC Santa Cruz. Verdery, called “iconoclastic” and “inventive” by The New York Times, earned the 2005 Classical Recording Foundation Award for his album Start Now. Other recent recordings include Branches and First You Build A Cloud (with Andy Summers). Verdery heads the guitar department at Yale University's School of Music. From teaching to composing to performance, together they represent over 50 years of experience, originality and expansion in the guitar world.

Verdery and Coulter play along family lines, musical lines, a myriad ancestries and influences masterly woven into their sound. What we get is a truly original, intimate guitar performance with heart-centered, meditative qualities.
We feel, naturally, happy here.
