THE PRODUCTION
A staged symphonic concert devoted to the music of Cirque du Soleil, featuring the incomparable voice and presence of Francesca Gagnon, the unique voice that is unmistakably Cirque du Soleil.
Francesca became the Voice of Alegria in 1994 for the Cirque du Soleil production of the same name, and toured the world, charming audiences and critics alike. The CD Alegria remained on Billboard s Top World Music chart for 56 weeks.
The symphonic program draws from seven Cirque du Soleil productions: Alegria, Cortéo, Kà, Quidam, Saltimbanco, La Nouba, O, and Mystère that evoke the essence and most memorable moments of Cirque du Soleil. It will be a complete musical and visual experience for the senses - a magical journey to a fairy tale land for children and a paradise for adults.
Cirque du Soleil endorses this production, and the Cirque du Soleil public relations will promote all tour dates on their fan club web site and will make contact with media where possible.
Artistic Director is Richard O'Neal, formerly Assistant Director for Riverdance and Director of Jarocho.
MESSAGE FROM THE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR RICHARD O'NEAL...
Sitting in a caf in the tropics of Vera Cruz with the famous clave of Cuban salsa in the background, and a steady pace of life passing outside, I marvel at how the journey of life can take you to places that you never imagined, and how the experiences of that journey can change and mold your life.
On my journey I had the pleasure of seeing Cirque du Soleil twice; I first saw the magic of Cirque du Soleil when I was on the road with Riverdance in the US, then again at home in London at the Royal Albert hall. I remember that night in London feeling that a new expression of dreams in theatre was unfolding in front of me. Fantasy, mystery, fun.
Like thousands of people, after the show night I went home with my cd, Alegria, and like thousands of people I played it, and played it, and played it again; each time recreating a piece of that magic that the music and the voice of Francesca gave birth to that night.
When I was approached with the idea of working on a show based on the extraordinary talent of Francesca and the music of Cirque du Soleil I thought again Magic.
Magic the only word that can express the vision of this show. A massage for the human spirit; a world in which we remember how to dream and dare to do so. A show in which Francesca and the music transport us to a different world, a new world with a universal language, a new world where we celebrate our differences be that of culture, color and creed.
It will be a concert event that any person, of any age, in any part of the world can enjoy, can feel and can experience with us. And all of this will be carried by the voice of Francesca and the music of Cirque du Soleil for an evening of magic.
