CANADA'S FRANCESCA GAGNON, The Voice of Alegria, COLLABORATES WITH CHILE'S INTI-ILLIMANI

At an early age FRANCESCA GAGNON was singing Brel, Piaf, Ferland and Vigneault while INTI-ILLIMANI was singing those of Victor Jara, Violeta Parra and Patricio Manns - each forming their unique styles and interpretations from their respective influences and cultures.

In 1994 both were touring the world, Francesca with the Cirque du Soleil production Alegria, and Inti-Illimani in support of their recording Andadas (Wanderings). Throughout their tours over the years Francesca Gagnon and Inti-Illimani paralleled each other in their exploration of the magical sounds and emotions of the countries and cultures with whom they came into contact. Both sought, and continue to seek, the subliminal "rendezvous" with what is universal in all of us, our humanity.

In November 2008 these two extraordinary artists were introduced to each other at an Inti-Illimani performance in Montréal. Magic ensued and it was evident they shared a mutual admiration for each other's work and a passion and love of music from any and all quarters of the world. Following performances in Chile during the winter of 2009, Francesca and Inti gave their United States premiere at Queens Theatre in the Park, New York (August 1, 2009) followed by a performance at Orange County Great Park, Irvine, CA (August 22, 2009).

With a program that mixes the popular songs of Cirque du Soleil with works from Inti-Illimani's vast repertoire, their collaboration is a massage for the human spirit, transporting the listener to a world with a universal language, a world where we celebrate our differences be that of culture, color or creed.

This cultural exchange between these renowned international artists is endorsed and supported by the Embassy of Canada in Santiago, Chile and the Qu bec Delegation in New York.

Warner Latin released Meridiano in September, 2010 in celebration of the 2010 bi-centenary year of Chile.
