CANADA S FRANCESCA GAGNON, The Voice of Alegria, JOINS FORCES WITH CHILE S INTI-ILLIMANI
Sometimes great ideas just come on the fly - no long discussions, just a big light bulb flashing in the mind...
While both Francesca Gagnon and Inti-Illimani possess a mutual admiration for each other's work, passion and love of music, they never had a chance to meet until this past November (2008) in Montréal. Inti-Illimani was performing at Le Métropolis and Kola Note, during the International Conference for the Performing Arts (CINARS 2008). GAMI/Simonds (representative to both Francesca and Inti-Illimani), invited Francesca to attend the Intis concert where she was immediately seduced by their voices and their music. The very next day we were planning her trip south for the winter....
After a month of rehearsals Francesca and Inti-Illimani hit the stages in Chile... The extraordinary talent of Francesca singing the music of Cirque du Soleil along side the relentless virtuosity of Latin America's most prominent folkloristas, Inti-Illimani... an evening of sheer beauty and magic ensued. These are the only words that can express the ambiance of this production. It is a massage for the human spirit; a world in which we remember how to dream and dare to do so. A show in which Francesca and Inti-Illimani let the music transport us to a different world, a new world with a universal language, a new world where we celebrate our differences be that of culture, color and creed.
The concert program mixes the popular songs of Cirque du Soleil from several Cirque productions including Alegria, Corteo, O, Kà, Saltimbanco and Quidam with works from Inti-Illimani's repertoire of over 400 songs.
This cultural exchange between these renowned international artists is endorsed and supported by the Embassy of Canada in Santiago, Chile and the Québec Delegation in New York.
The collaboration will premiere in the United States at Queens Theatre in the Park in New York August 1, 2009 and at Orange County Great Park in Irvine, CA August 22, 2009.
A CD is scheduled to be released in conjunction with North and South American tours planned for the 2010 bi-centenary year of Chile.
